Visa information
Travelling from Germany to Costa Rica
German citizens do not need a visa for tourist stays of up to 180 days. However, the border officer decides how long you may stay and often grants less.
- Check the number of days written in your entry stamp.
- Overstaying can lead to a ban on re-entry or deportation.
- Extensions are applied for at the immigration authority (Migración), for a fee.
- Internships, volunteering, study and other non-tourist stays require a residence permit, applied for at the embassy in Berlin before travel.

Costa Rican citizens can visit Germany without a visa for up to 90 days within any 180 days.
