Finland’s embassy is one of the five buildings of the Nordic Embassies at Rauchstraße 1 in Berlin-Tiergarten. The Finnish building is recognisable by its façade of larch wood slats.

About the Finnish Embassy in Berlin

The embassy represents Finland in Germany. Germany is one of Finland’s largest trading partners, and since 2023 both countries are also NATO allies. Ferries link Travemünde with Helsinki.

Finland has no career consulates in Germany but eight honorary consuls, from Kiel to Stuttgart.

Applying for a Finnish passport in Germany

• Apply online with the Finnish police and book a visit to the consular section to give fingerprints.
• Bring your previous passport or ID card.
• Photos must come from a photographer who sends them electronically with a photo code.

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. The consular section only opens three mornings a week, so book in advance.

Visa information

Travelling from Germany to Finland

German citizens do not need a visa and can travel with an identity card. Finland is in the EU and the Schengen area.

• Your document must be valid for the whole stay.
• If you stay longer than three months, register with the Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) and the Digital and Population Data Services Agency.
• Dogs need proof of tapeworm (Echinococcus) treatment in addition to the rabies vaccination.

Finns can live and work in Germany without a visa as EU citizens.

Closing days

The embassy is closed on German public holidays in Berlin and on Finnish holidays, including Midsummer Eve in late June and Independence Day on 6 December.
