About the honorary consulate in Brno

According to the Czech list, the office covers the whole of the Czech Republic. The Czech Ministry of Foreign Affairs lists office hours (Monday and Wednesday 10:00–12:00); as honorary consuls work part-time, confirm before you go.

Czech citizens need a visa for Laos; it can be applied for online before travelling. The Czech Foreign Ministry publishes the current entry rules in its travel advice; check it before booking.

Which Lao office issues passports and visas?

An honorary consul cannot issue passports or visas; these are handled by the Lao Embassy in Berlin (accredited to the Czech Republic).

Note: Laos has no resident embassy in Prague; its embassy in Berlin is accredited to the Czech Republic.

What can an honorary consul do?

An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Laos and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Lao citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.
