About the Lao Embassy in Berlin
The embassy represents the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Germany. Germany supports Laos in rural development, vocational training and the clearance of unexploded ordnance from the Indochina wars. Luang Prabang, a UNESCO World Heritage site, is the main destination for German visitors.
Laos also has an honorary consul in Cologne.

Before you travel to Laos
- A passport valid for at least six months with at least two free pages
- A visa: from the embassy, as an e-visa (30 days, USD 50) or on arrival
- The Lao Digital Immigration Form, completed within three days before entry and again before exit at the main airports and the Friendship Bridge in Vientiane
Visa information
Travelling from Germany to Laos
German citizens need a visa for Laos. It can be obtained from a Lao mission, online as an e-visa, or on arrival.
- The e-visa costs USD 50, is valid for 30 days, and is accepted only at Wattay (Vientiane), Luang Prabang and Pakse airports and the two Lao-Thai Friendship Bridges in Vientiane and Savannakhet.
- Since 1 September 2025, travellers using these crossings must register online with the Lao Digital Immigration Form within three days before entry and exit.
- Besides Berlin, the Lao Embassy in Bangkok and the consulate in Khon Kaen (Thailand) also issue visas.

Lao citizens need a Schengen visa from the German Embassy in Vientiane.

Closing days
The embassy is closed on German public holidays in Berlin and on Lao holidays, including Lao New Year (Pi Mai) in mid-April and National Day on 2 December.
