About the honorary consulate in Vienna

Mali is represented in Austria by honorary consul Mamadou Kone, in office since 2019. Officially, it has no authority for certifications, passports and visas. Meetings are by appointment only.

Which Malian office issues passports and visas?

For passports, visas and civil status documents, Malian citizens contact the Malian Embassy at Kurfürstendamm 72 , 10709 Berlin, open Tuesday and Thursday from 10:00 to 12:00.

What can an honorary consul do?

An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Mali and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Malian citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.
