Documents checklist

What Uruguayan citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Uruguayan government information:

Renewing a Uruguayan passport abroad

  • Request an appointment with the consulate in the way it indicates (e-mail or form)
  • Your expired, soon-to-expire or damaged passport and your identity documents
  • Some consulates also ask for a recent criminal record certificate from your country of residence, apostilled
  • If lost or stolen: a police report from the country where you are
  • Passports are printed in Montevideo and sent to the consulate – allow about 20–30 working days
  • Emergency passport only exceptionally, if your Uruguayan passport was still valid, and after approval from Uruguay

Travelling from Poland to Uruguay

Polish citizens do not need a visa for short tourist stays in Uruguay (up to 90 days), according to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs; a valid passport is required. Details: Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs – travel advice (in Polish).

Closing days

Like most offices in Poland, the embassy closes on public holidays – including Easter Monday, Corpus Christi and All Saints’ Day (1 November); the Uruguayan national day (25 August) usually means a closure too. If your visit falls close to a holiday, confirm by phone or e-mail.

Emergency assistance

In an emergency, Uruguayan citizens should contact the embassy. Consular staff can replace lost travel documents and inform family members; they do not provide legal representation or money. In Poland, the emergency number is 112. Polish citizens who need help in Uruguay should contact the Polish embassy or consulate responsible for the country; the Polish Foreign Ministry’s Odyseusz service lists the contacts and lets travellers register their trip.
