About the Ecuadorian Embassy in The Hague

The ambassador is Andres Horacio Teran Parral, who presented credentials to the King of the Netherlands on 20 November 2019. Unlike in most countries, the embassies in the Netherlands are not in the capital Amsterdam but in The Hague, the seat of government. Two honorary consulates support Ecuadorian citizens in other parts of the Netherlands.

Consular services

The consular section typically handles:

  • Ecuadorian passports and emergency travel documents
  • Certification and legalisation of documents
  • Powers of attorney and notarial acts
  • Certificates for pensions abroad
  • Citizenship and civil register matters

Documents checklist

What Ecuadorian citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Ecuadorian government information:

Ecuadorian ordinary passport (first issue or renewal abroad)

  • Book an appointment with the consulate (consular appointment platform of the Foreign Ministry)
  • A document proving your identity and Ecuadorian nationality (e.g. cédula)
  • Your current ordinary passport, if it is still valid
  • If lost: the police report of the loss
  • Fee: US$90 (US$45 for senior citizens, free for persons with disabilities); passports are valid 10 years and cannot be extended
  • Minors: both parents with their original ID, or a notarised special power of attorney for the absent parent

Sources: Government of Ecuador (gob.ec) – ordinary passport abroad, Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry – ordinary passports (checked October 2026). Requirements and fees can change and individual posts may ask for more – confirm the current list with the embassy before your visit.

Do I need an appointment?
