The embassy and its staff
The embassy is currently led by Gediminas Kliukas as Chargé d’affaires ad interim since August 2026; no ambassador is listed at the moment. Its accreditation extends beyond Austria to Slovakia, Slovenia, Liechtenstein, Slovakia, Slovenia and Liechtenstein. Vienna is also a UN headquarters city, and Lithuania maintains a permanent mission to the OSCE. Consular requests belong to the embassy, not to that mission.
Embassy or honorary consulate?
The consular section in Vienna is responsible for Lithuanian citizens in all of Austria. Four honorary consulates (Feldkirch, Klagenfurt, Salzburg and Vienna) can help with information and some formalities, but passports are normally issued by the embassy.
Consular services
Typical consular services include:
- Powers of attorney and other notarial acts
Ask the embassy about fees and processing times before you apply – they are not listed by the Austrian Foreign Ministry.
Documents checklist
Prepare these documents before your appointment. The lists are taken from official Lithuanian sources:
Lithuanian passport or ID card (application abroad)
- Register for an appointment via the Ministry’s Keliauk portal (in some countries applications go through an external service provider)
- Everyone over 2 years old must be present
- Your old Lithuanian passport or ID card and a valid passport or ID of your country of residence
- The consular fee (card payment at many missions)
- Lost, damaged or expired document: the consular post can issue a travel document valid only for returning to Lithuania
Sources: Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania – registration for consular services, Consulate General of Lithuania in New York – passport and ID card (checked October 2026). Requirements and fees can change and individual posts may ask for more – confirm the current list with the embassy before your visit.
