About the honorary consulate in Monaco

The honorary consulate represents Malaysia in Monaco. According to the Monegasque government’s country page, it is headed by Frédéric Escande (honorary consul). No opening hours are published; arrange a visit in advance. To do so, call +377 93 25 18 53 or e-mail consulate-malaysia@monaco.mc.

The building at 28 boulevard Princesse Charlotte also houses the Honorary Consulate of Indonesia.

The office is in the Monte-Carlo district, about 1 km in a straight line from the Prince’s Palace in Monaco-Ville and about 19 km from Nice Côte d’Azur Airport, the nearest airport.

Monaco is not part of the Schengen area, but visitors need the same documents as for entering France, according to Monaco’s public service portal. Citizens of Malaysia need no visa for short stays in the Schengen area (up to 90 days in any 180-day period, Annex II of Regulation (EU) 2018/1806), so they can visit Monaco without one.

Which Malaysian office issues passports and visas?

For passports and other formal consular services, Malaysian citizens should turn to the Malaysian Embassy in Puteaux, which is responsible for Monaco.

Malaysia has no embassy in Monaco. According to the Monegasque government’s country page, the Embassy of Malaysia in Puteaux is responsible for Monaco: Tour Voltaire - 8éme étage, 1 place des degrés, 92800 Puteaux, France; tel. +33 1 45 53 11 85; e-mail mwparis@kln.gov.my; website www.kln.gov.my/web/fra_paris. The ambassador accredited to Monaco is Datuk Eldeen Husaini Bin Mohd Hashim.

What can an honorary consul do?

An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Malaysia and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Malaysian citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.
