About the Russian consulate general

The consulate general provides consular services for Russian citizens living in Greece. The office is headed by Consul General Vladimir Brednev, according to the Greek Foreign Ministry’s list of consular posts (September 2026). The office is located in Central Macedonia. The embassy in Athens is roughly 305 km away.

Consular services

Typical services include:

  • Russian passports and emergency travel documents
  • Registration of births, marriages and deaths
  • Certification of documents and signatures
  • Citizenship and civil register matters
  • Help for citizens in difficulty

Documents checklist

What Russian citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Russian government information:

Russian passport for travel abroad (zagranpasport)

  • Application form prepared online: zp.midpass.ru (biometric 10-year passport) or passportzu.kdmid.ru (5-year passport)
  • Photo 35 × 45 mm attached to the application (one extra photo for the non-biometric passport)
  • Your current Russian passport for travel abroad – or a valid internal passport if it has expired, is unusable or was never issued
  • If the name has changed: marriage or name-change certificate; foreign documents need an apostille and a notarised Russian translation
  • If the old passport was lost: a written statement about the loss
  • Most consulates work by appointment only (electronic queue)

Travelling from Greece to Russia

The Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not publish visa rules for individual countries. It asks Greek citizens travelling outside the EU and the European Economic Area to check with the consular authorities of the country they are visiting before departure – for Russia, that means this mission. See the ministry’s page on visas for Greek citizens (in Greek).

Closing days

Expect the consulate general to be closed on Greek public holidays such as Epiphany (6 January), Independence Day (25 March) and Ochi Day (28 October). It is usually also closed on Russia’s national day (12 June). Check before visiting in the weeks around Christmas and Easter.

Emergency assistance

Urgent consular cases: phone +30 2310 257 201. Consular staff can replace lost travel documents and inform relatives; they cannot pay bills or act as a lawyer. In Greece, the emergency number is 112 (police 100, ambulance 166, fire service 199; tourist police 1571). Greek citizens who need help in Russia should contact the Greek embassy accredited to the country (listed on mfa.gr).
