Documents checklist

What Emirati citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Emirati government information:

Renewing a UAE passport abroad

  • Possible when the passport has expired or has one year or less of validity left
  • Apply online through ICP or the MoFA smart services with UAE PASS (“Renew Passports of UAE Nationals Abroad”) and note the reference number
  • A personal photo meeting ICAO standards (not identical to the current passport photo)
  • A letter from the embassy confirming the reason for your stay abroad (e.g. study, treatment or work)
  • Hand in the original passport and photo at the embassy, pay the fee there and collect the renewed passport later

Do Italian citizens need a visa for the United Arab Emirates?

Italian citizens do not need a visa for short tourist stays in the United Arab Emirates (up to 90 days). Details: Italian travel advice (Viaggiare Sicuri).

Closing days

Expect the embassy to be closed on Italian national holidays such as 25 April, 2 June and 15 August as well as on the Emirati national day, 2 December. Local holiday: 29 June, the feast of Saints Peter and Paul, patron of the city. Check before visiting around Christmas, Easter and the August holidays (Ferragosto).

For emergencies, the embassy’s number is +39 06 36306100. Embassies can issue emergency travel documents, contact relatives and provide lists of lawyers or doctors; they cannot pay bills or act as a lawyer. The Italian emergency number is 112.
