About the honorary consulate in Zagreb

The Croatian Foreign Ministry’s directory lists office hours (Monday to Friday 09:00–16:00); as honorary consuls work part-time, confirm before you go.

Vietnam normally requires a visa from Croatian citizens, but according to the Croatian Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs stays of up to 45 days are visa-free – for tourism, under the EU-wide exemption valid from 15 August 2025 to 14 August 2028; other purposes require an e-visa (evisa.gov.vn). A valid passport is required; other purposes of travel still need a visa. See the ministry’s visa overview for Vietnam (in Croatian).

Which Vietnamese office issues passports and visas?

Passports and other formal consular services for Vietnamese citizens are handled by the Vietnamese Embassy in Budapest (accredited to Croatia).

Note: Vietnam has no resident embassy in Zagreb; its embassy in Budapest is accredited to Croatia.

What can an honorary consul do?

An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Vietnam and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Vietnamese citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.
