The embassy represents Madagascar, the world’s fourth-largest island, in Germany. Its unique wildlife, including lemurs found nowhere else, attracts many German nature travellers, and vanilla is a key export.

Visa information
Travelling from Germany to Madagascar
German citizens need a visa. For stays of up to 90 days it is issued on arrival at Antananarivo-Ivato and other international airports such as Nosy Be.
- For stays over 90 days, apply at the embassy before travel. If you may want to extend in Madagascar, ask for a “transformable” visa.
- Breaking entry and residence rules is punished strictly, with high fines or prison.
- Foreign currency above EUR 7,500 must be declared on arrival.
