About the honorary consulate in Copenhagen

The year given in the list for the appointment is 2024.

The Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs does not publish visa rules for individual countries. Its travel advice points out that the authorities of the destination decide on entry rules, and asks Danish citizens to check with that country’s nearest embassy or consulate before departure – for Malawi, that means this mission. See the ministry’s travel advice for Malawi (in Danish).

Which Malawian office issues passports and visas?

Applications for Malawian passports, visas and official certificates are not processed here but by the Malawian Embassy in London (accredited to Denmark).

Note: Malawi has no resident embassy in Copenhagen; its embassy in London is accredited to Denmark.

What can an honorary consul do?

An honorary consul is not a career diplomat but a local resident – often a business person or lawyer – appointed by Malawi and approved by the host country. Depending on the powers granted, the honorary consul can help Malawian citizens in an emergency (lost passport, accident, arrest), pass on applications and documents to the embassy, and certify signatures or life certificates. Passports and visas are not issued by an honorary consulate; they remain the responsibility of the embassy or a career consulate.
