Before you fly to Dakar
- A passport valid for six months beyond your trip (identity cards are not accepted)
- A return ticket and proof of accommodation, which are regularly checked
- Minors travelling without a parent: a certified consent letter in French
- Cash above 1,000,000 CFA francs (about EUR 1,500) must be declared
Visa information
Travelling from Germany to Senegal
German citizens do not need a visa for stays of up to three months. Expect to show a return ticket and proof of accommodation on arrival.
- Fingerprints and a photo are taken at entry and exit.
- Longer stays require a residence permit, which can also be applied for in Senegal. Bring a recent police certificate and birth certificate.
- Undeclared currency can be confiscated; keep exchange receipts until you leave.

The embassy is closed on German public holidays in Berlin and on Senegalese holidays, including Independence Day on 4 April and the Islamic festivals of Korité (Eid al-Fitr) and Tabaski (Eid al-Adha).
