About the Iraqi Embassy in Berlin
The embassy represents Iraq in Germany. Germany is a major supporter of stabilisation and reconstruction in Iraq, and a large Iraqi and Kurdish-Iraqi community lives in Germany.
Iraq also has a Consulate General in Frankfurt am Main.

If you must travel to Iraq
- A passport valid for at least six months
- For central Iraq: an e-visa (up to 30 days) or a visa from an Iraqi mission for longer stays
- For the Kurdistan Region: a separate e-visa from the regional government’s portal
- Always carry photo ID and a certified copy of your visa
Visa information
Travelling from Germany to Iraq
The German Federal Foreign Office warns against travel to Iraq. German citizens need a visa for the whole country, including the Kurdistan Region.
- Since 1 March 2025, visas on arrival are no longer issued for central Iraq. An e-visa for up to 30 days must be obtained before travel.
- The Kurdistan Region issues its own e-visa, which does not allow travel to central Iraq.
- Travellers except tourists must show an HIV test within ten days of arrival.
- Signs of earlier stays in Israel can lead to refusal at the border.
Travelling from Iraq to Germany
Iraqi citizens need a Schengen visa from the German Embassy in Baghdad or the German Consulate General in Erbil.

Closing days
The embassy is closed on German public holidays in Berlin and on Iraqi holidays, including National Day on 3 October and the Islamic festivals of Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha.
