Norway’s embassy is part of the Nordic Embassies at Rauchstraße 1 in Berlin-Tiergarten. Its façade features a single slab of Norwegian granite, more than 15 metres high.

About the Norwegian Embassy in Berlin

The embassy represents the Kingdom of Norway in Germany. Norway is Germany’s most important supplier of natural gas, and the two countries cooperate closely on energy, defence and the North Sea. Norway is not in the EU but belongs to the EEA and Schengen.

Norway has ten honorary consuls in Germany.

Before you drive to Norway

• A German identity card or passport valid for the whole stay
• Check the strict limits on alcohol and tobacco imports
• Many Norwegian banks and authorities do not accept the German identity card; if you move to Norway, bring a passport

Do I need an appointment?

Yes. Passport and ID card applications require a booked appointment.

Visa information

Travelling from Germany to Norway

German citizens do not need a visa and can travel with an identity card. Norway is in the Schengen area.

• Stays longer than three months require registration with the Norwegian police.
• There are border checks for Svalbard, but the German identity card is accepted.
• Norwegian customs rules on alcohol and tobacco are very strict; even small excesses are fined.
• Entry to Russia from Norway is only possible at Storskog, with a visa obtained in advance.

Norwegians can live and work in Germany without a visa under the European Economic Area agreement.
