Who runs the Chilean Embassy?

Hernán Bascuñan heads the embassy as ambassador; the Dutch protocol list gives 24 June 2026 as the date of the presentation of credentials. The Hague is the seat of the Dutch government and of international institutions such as the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court and the OPCW, so many embassies in the city also follow their work. Chile also has a consulate general in Amsterdam. One honorary consulate supports Chilean citizens in other parts of the Netherlands.

Consular services

What you can usually arrange here:

  • Chilean passports and emergency travel documents
  • Certificates for pensions abroad
  • Citizenship and civil register matters
  • Visas for travellers who need one for Chile

Depending on where you live, consular matters may also be handled by the consulate general in Amsterdam. The Dutch government does not publish the consular districts – ask the embassy if in doubt.

Documents checklist

What Chilean citizens usually need to bring for the most common requests, based on official Chilean government information:

Chilean passport (application abroad)

  • Book an appointment in the consulate’s online agenda – passport and identity card can be done in the same appointment
  • Your Chilean identity card must be valid; if it has expired, renew it together with the passport
  • Your previous passport, which is kept and cancelled (if lost: Chilean ID card and police report)
  • Photos are usually taken at the consulate
  • Minors: both parents, or a recent apostilled notarial authorisation from the absent parent
  • Passports are made in Chile – allow several weeks
