About the Greek Embassy in Berlin

The embassy represents Greece in Germany. More than 350,000 Greek citizens live in Germany, many of them descendants of workers recruited from the 1960s. Germany in turn is one of the largest markets for tourism to Greece.

Greece has consulates general in Düsseldorf, Frankfurt am Main, Hamburg, Munich and Stuttgart.

Which Greek office is responsible for me?

Several consulates general have one late opening a week: Düsseldorf and Stuttgart on Tuesday until 18:00, Frankfurt on Tuesday evening and Hamburg on Thursday afternoon.

Applying for a Greek passport in Germany

• Book an appointment at the office for your state.
• Bring your Greek identity card or old passport.
• Biometric data is taken at the appointment.
• Men of military service age may need a certificate on their military status.

Yes, for passports and most services. Depending on the office, appointments are booked online, by email or by phone.

Visa information

Travelling from Germany to Greece

German citizens do not need a visa and can travel with an identity card. Greece is in the EU and the Schengen area.

• Greece accepts German documents that expired less than a year ago, but airlines usually require valid documents, especially for the flight home.
• If you lose your documents, the German missions in Greece issue an emergency travel document for the return flight.
• Boats arriving from outside the Schengen area, for example from Turkey, must use designated ports of entry.

Greeks can live and work in Germany without a visa as EU citizens.

The embassy is closed on German public holidays in Berlin and on Greek holidays, including Independence Day on 25 March, Orthodox Easter, Assumption Day on 15 August and Ochi Day on 28 October.
