The Hungarian Embassy is at Unter den Linden 76, at the corner of Wilhelmstraße, a few steps from the Brandenburg Gate. The consular section has its entrance at Wilhelmstraße 61.

About the Hungarian Embassy in Berlin
The embassy represents Hungary in Germany, its most important trading partner. German car makers such as Audi, Mercedes-Benz and BMW have large plants in Hungary, and around 200,000 Hungarian citizens live in Germany. Hungary is remembered in Germany for opening its border to East Germans in 1989.
Hungary also has six honorary consuls in Germany.

Applying for a Hungarian passport in Germany
- Book an appointment at the office for your state.
- Bring your Hungarian identity card or address card and your old passport.
- Photo and fingerprints are taken on site.

Passport and ID card applications need a booked slot, which you reserve online.
Visa information
Travelling from Germany to Hungary
No visa is required: a German identity card or passport is enough for Hungary, which belongs to both the EU and the Schengen area.
- A German document that expired less than a year ago is still accepted for entry.
- Hungarian motorways require an electronic vignette (e-matrica), bought before you drive on them.
- Arriving from Ukraine or Serbia, you may bring only 40 cigarettes. Higher amounts lead to heavy fines.
Hungarian citizens in Germany
As EU citizens, Hungarians may settle and take up work in Germany freely. They only register their address locally.

The embassy is closed on German public holidays in Berlin and on Hungarian holidays, including the national holidays on 15 March, 20 August (St Stephen’s Day) and 23 October.
